US Citizenship and Immigration Services

In March 2003, the functions of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) were brought under the umbrella of the Department of Homeland Security and became US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). USCIS is responsible for immigrations and naturalization functions. There are four USCIS centers which were established to process immigration applications. The centers in California, Nebraska, Texas and Vermont service applications from specific geographical areas within the United States.

In addition, the Missouri Service Center (MSC) transitioned into the National Benefits Center (NBC). The NBC services all the pre-interview processing of Forms, including conducting background security checks, performing initial evidence reviews, adjudication of associated I-765 and I-131 applications.
