The non-immigrant J-1 Visa classification is reserved for persons who are coming to the United States for the purposes of performing research, teaching, studying, receiving training or to receive graduate medical education/training. The public and private entities are designated by the Department of State to act as exchange sponsors. These programs are designed to promote the exchange of knowledge and skills in the fields of education, arts, and science. Some examples of exchange visitors include Professors or Scholars, Research Assistants, Students, Trainees, Teachers, Specialists, Nannies/Au pairs, and Camp Counselors.
Employment
A J-1 Visa holder is authorized to work in the United States under the terms of the J-1 visa program. However, the J-1 visa holder must get approval from the sponsoring institution.
Family Members
The spouses and children (under the ages of 21 years) are entitled to an J-2 visa.

Immigration: Visitor (B2) Visa
Temporary Non-Immigrant Visas
Non-immigrants who are not VWP (see below) participants can apply for B2 Visa for pleasure travel to the United States. The B visa stipulates the person applying for the B visa is a permanent resident of a foreign country and is entering the United States for Business/Pleasure and is not employed in the United States.
Visa Waiver Program
Citizens of several countries which are part of the Visa Waiver Program may travel to the US for Tourism for a period of up to 90 days without getting a visa. The countries that currently participate in the VWP are listed below:

Immigration : Student Visa (M1)
A great number of renowned Institutions of higher education together with the wide variety of certified programs they offer attracts hundreds of thousands of people who want to study and improve their careers to the United States every year. The M-1 visa classification if available to Vocational students who meet the following criteria :
- They must be enrolled in a vocational program at an approved institution. This must culminate in a degree, diploma or a certificate. They must be proficient in English.
- They must be financially self sufficient for the entire length of the their study.
- They must maintain a residence abroad.
Family Members
Spouses and children (under the age of 21 years) can apply for an M-2 visa.
Employment
On completion of their study, an M-1 Student can only engage in practical training as long as the training is related to their field of study and approved by the educational institution they are attending.

- Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
- Optional Practical Training (OPT)
- Science Technical Engineering Mathematics (OPT)
as long as the employment is related to their field of study and approved by the educational institution they are attending.
